This Friday, 9 December 2005, Leipzig becomes the "capital of world football" when it hosts the Final Draw for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™.
Millions of television viewers will follow the draw with the same passion and tension as the national coaches at the Messe Convention Centre. FIFAworldcup.com had fun picking out some of the most striking numbers surrounding the preparations for this huge, unparalleled event. The countdown starts at 350 million...
350 million: the number of viewers expected to watch the draw on TV
20,500m²: the size of Hall 1 at the Messe Convention Centre in Leipzig, where the draw is to take place
11,000: the number of seated guests, representing the maximum capacity of Hall 1
6,000: the number of official passes allocated, including 2,000 for journalists
4,800m²: the size of the stage on which the ceremony will take place
1996: the year in which the Messe in Leipzig was opened
1,400: the number of spotlights that will illuminate the ceremony
500: the number of workers employed to set up the equipment for the TV broadcast
245: the number of volunteers (60 per cent female, 40 per cent male) who will help to ensure that the evening runs smoothly
243 metres: the length of Hall 1
182: the number of days until the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ kicks off
180: the number of print media journalists expected in the mixed zone to gather the post-draw reactions; 130 radio and television reporters, 60 photographers and 40 journalists from news agencies are also expected
150: the number of volunteers who contributed to the success of the FIFA Confederations Cup Germany 2005
72 years: the age of the eldest of these volunteers
46: the number of kilometres of cable required for the electrical installations
37m x 9.20m: the size of the two giant screens
31: the number of coaches of the qualified teams who should be present in Leipzig on Friday. Jose Pekerman, the coach of Argentina, will not be making the journey due to personal reasons
