don't think they'll beat Italy. 2 or 3 of the US players have played for Dutch teams. Which means they're not that good Hey, Sweden had three players from the Swedish league and one from the Danish league in their starting line-up. If you think the Dutch league sucks, (it's at least top 10 in Europe), wait until you've seen a match in Allsvenskan. Our national team coach is too lazy too go check out our non Scandinavian players. That's probably one of the reason we've sucked the most so far in the WCs.

The Swedish team isn't that good, apart from the strikers. They all play for world-class teams, without them I'm not sure if Sweden would beat the US.

Ouch LOL, I wish you guys could see ESPN's between-match show. After the France-Switzerland nailbiter/yawner, they started talking about "the US loss - the day after". They aren't playing Italy til the weekend, so I guess every day between now and then we're going to hear about how everybody from the captain to the towel boy will prepare to beat Italy Is it this bad in other countries? The DW coverage hasn't been so bad, but then I do only get the news show...

Hackie! You ain't seen nothing yet. Try 15-20 pages about the team and the championships in every paper every day. Every Swedish practise session and press conference shown live on TV. One hour magazine shows every night on two different networks. And I still think Swedish media is pretty moderate compared to other countries.

Hey I never said Holland was great apart form Robben Hackie, sounds about the same as what we're getting over here. We get WC news three times a day and a total of 2,5 hours of football 'talkshows'. Yesterday van Basten made a joke which wasn't even funny but I saw it 4 times. And there are 3 other Dutch coaches so we also get news on Austrailia, Trinidad & Tobago and South Korea *yawn*.

A photo finish to Saudi Arabia-Tunisia! Definitely the best finish so far. LOL, good! I've always had this feeling, I guess from the tennis coverage, that our nationalistic tendencies and myopia are worse than other places. Actually, in comparison, our coverage doesn't sound so bad. I guess its just the fact that they are ignoring every other team and every other match because they can't get over the loss that kills me. I mean, really. Even DW's coverage has been more balanced, and that's from Germany! BUT, it's interesting - there's been less coverage than in Europe, naturally because it's taking place in Europe but also because the mainstream media hates "soccer" about as much as it does tennis. It's one of those "we don't excel in/own this sport, so we don't care" deals. All the usual ESPN/sports talk shows have given as little possible coverage as they could to a world sporting event.

Blah. ESPN doesn't like showing WC because they can't show any commercials until halftime. So the whole halftime is filled with every possible commercial (sometimes twice).
So far, some good stuff from England today, late in their match (and that amazing save from John Terry! Where's Emma?!). I'm finally getting to see Sweden and, well, can't really say I'm too impressed right now...
