www.gotennis.com/news/headline.aspx?headlineID=8632Ferrer to lead Spain in Davis Cup in Nadal's absence
MADRID, Jan 22 (Reuters) - David Ferrer will lead Spain in next month's Davis Cup world group tie against Belarus after Rafael Nadal and Juan Carlos Ferrero were left out by new captain Emilio Sanchez Vicario on Sunday. Nadal, number two in the world in 2005, has been left out because he is recovering from a foot injury. Ferrero sustained a stomach injury at the Australian Open. Tommy Robredo is likely to play the second singles while Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco will probably form the doubles partnership for the tie in Minsk between Feb. 10 and 12 on an indoor carpet surface. Carlos Moya, who lost in the first round in Australia, was also omitted by former player Sanchez Vicario who took over after the dismissal of previous skippers Jordi Arrese and Juan Avedano in October. Spain, Davis Cup winners in 2000 and 2004, lost to eventual finalists Slovakia in last year's World Group first round tie before defeating Italy in a playoff.

Interesting. Ferrero has a stomach injury? I hope it's nothing serious.
I've heard he's had a problem with the new Spanish captain anyway. We'll see if he's continued to be left off the team.

After his loss against Kiefer, Juan Carlos said he would be available for DC. The captains decided to leave him out, which makes sense because Ferrer and Robredo are playing better atm.
