This is my last day in Indian Wells 2008.
First I saw Stepanek (AGAIN) and his partner this time is Moya. They just kicked Verdasco and Lalo out of the practice court. Next was Ferrero and Hewitt. There were also Grosjean, Clement and Chela plus some players I could not recognise. Nestor and Zimonjic were practicing in court 8 where their doubles vs Gonzo and Dima would take place later.
I went to Janko/Massu match and Peer was hitting her entourage, including her coach Conchita Martinez and two guys.
It's a disappointing match and Janko was not playing well. His serve was out and very inconsistent. Massu was not better but he had a group of very vocal fans. Many game points and break points from both side and Massu finally won 6-4 3-6 7-6 in more than 3 hours
I was glad that I gave up on the match after about an hour and the match was still in 1st set because I saw Djokovic again. He finished some play and workout in the grass area and was signing autograph near the practice court side. He stopped to play a little football (soccer) with other players and he left the grass area near the player's entrance. Again, he was mopped by autograph seekers. Suddenly, I felt the need to seek his autograph and ran over there. He was already stepped passed the security guard but still stopped to sign my drawsheet when I asked. He would have a press conference soon and need to clean up.
When I wandered again back to check practice courts, there were a HUGE crowd in one of those. I was curious and found the Bryans were there with the Brasilians Sa and Mercelo. I know Bryans are fan favorite but don't know that popular. Then I saw who were there practicing after them. It's Federer practiced with Hrbaty.
I wanted to watch Nester/Zimonjic vs Dima/Gonzo doubles match. The people assigning courts for matches are :retard: If you looked at the players who were playing, not these are men's doubles matches,
J Coetzee (RSA) / W Moodie (RSA) vs P Kohlschreiber (GER) / J Nieminen (FIN)
F Gonzalez (CHI) / D Tursunov (RUS) vs [3] D Nestor (CAN) / N Zimonjic (SRB)
G Canas (ARG) / D Nalbandian (ARG) vs M Fyrstenberg (POL) / M Matkowski (POL)
T Berdych (CZE) / L Dlouhy (CZE) vs N Davydenko (RUS) / N Kiefer (GER)
L Friedl (CZE) / M Youzhny (RUS) vs J Bjorkman (SWE) / K Ullyett (ZIM)
no sane people will put all those matches in the smallest court, with 3 rows of folding chair on one side along the length of the court The court was packed solid with people standing behind the chairs. And some like me, who could not watch in court 7, they went to court 8 across from court 7. It was funny that both courts were so packed that when a coach arrived court 7 for one of his women player's doubles match, he could not find a seat for himself. :tape:
After Nestor/Zimonjic won their match, I went to court 8 and managed to find a seat. Next to me was a woman who's a big fangirl of Nalby :tape: Anyway, I watched Nalby and CaƱas won the first set and I had enough of the fangirl, so I left. Next was Gulbis vs Hernandez, the match was totally one-sided and boring so I braved the Safinettes and watched Safin vs Melzer. Stadium 2 was quite packed and the match was just tied at 1 set all. Marat played 2 good service games and was broken. I left and he was all downhill from there.
I went out for one more round of the practice courts and saw Roddick practiced with PHM, then Jamie Murray practiced with his entourage. Funny that I never him practiced with his doubles partner, Max Mirnyi :tape: and more funny that his brother Andy plays doubles with his discarded partner, Butorac. Then I remembered there would be an autograph session of Robredo in tennis warehouse. So I turned fangirl and went there. I had Tommy signed my draw sheet for the day. Since Djokovic already signed the front where the order of play was, I turned to the inside page where the men's main draw was for him to sign. I also took one of those posters he signed.
Afterward, I FINALLY went on my last round in practice court and Mirza warming up in the grass area, Kei practiced with Haas, Soderling with O. Rochus, Sa and Marcelo with another doubles pair and Volandri with someone I don't know and I didn't think he's an ATP player. I texted Deb that I was leaving and hit the road back home.
